When do you feel offended? I think the times I am most easily offended are when my expectations aren’t met by what somebody else says or does. Often, if I am really honest, it’s when I don’t feel cared for or recognized or even if I’m made to feel uncomfortable. When I feel this hurt, my first reaction is to justify my feeling by blaming the person who caused it. But what happens when the person is God?
In Matthew 11:6, Jesus’s very own words are “And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.” Huh? How can I be offended by God? When I looked at this passage, I wrestled with its meaning. I dug into the context and God opened my heart to see. Anytime the truth of God conflicts with my feelings, I have a choice to make. Will I lean into God or will I lean away from Him?
